Coffee Morning
Coffee morning on Monday 24th October, organised by Eleanor Murphy, Cáirde representative on the Parents Association, for all parents of pupils in our Cáirde classes and parents of children with Special Education Needs in mainstream classes. This event provides parents with an opportunity to meet up and share information in an informal setting.
Hallowe’en Raffle: Tickets are being sold by Niall and Caoimhe in the hall each day at 11am break, for our annual Hallowe’en raffle. One week left.
Marathon Monday
The Parents Association would like to remind all parents, pupils and families about the 5km walk / run from school on bank holiday Monday 31st October 2016, at 11am (wear Hi Vis). Please return your sponsorship cards as soon as possible. This is an important annual fundraiser for our school and we would encourage all parents and families to show their support.
Maths Week 2016: Maths Week 2016 has been an enjoyable and fun packed week of learning. Each class completed Maths Trails and activities in and out of class. The Maths Champions for the week and the Maths Puzzlers of the week are detailed on the school website with some lovely photographs. The solutions to the maths puzzles are also on the website. A big thank you to Ms. Duignan for coordinating the event.
County 21st Annual Swimming Gala Knocktemple National School have been invited to take part in the 21st Annual National School Swimming Gala in Cavan Pool on Wednesday 7th December 2016 (10am to 3.30pm). A notice has been handed out to any children that expressed an interest in taking part.
Green School WOW day
On Friday 28th October we plan to hold another WOW Day for Green Schools. We are calling this a “Witches Walk” and children are encouraged to walk/cycle or park and stride in their Halloween Costume.
Design a Card Our school is participating in a unique fundraiser with www.designacard.ie Each child will get the opportunity to design their own card, these are being worked on in class at the moment, later a sample of which will be sent home giving you the option to purchase packs of cards or any of the optional extra Christmas gifts if you wish. We hope everyone enjoys this project and we look forward to making it a success for our school.
Cheerios Childline Breakfast
Ms. Reilly hosted a breakfast morning on Friday last in the school hall. This initiative was in aid of Childline (ISPCC). All pupils kindly donated €2 towards this worthy charity. Parents and families also sent in donations. Tea and coffee was enjoyed by parents and members of the community. Thanks to Frank Skelly and family for their sponsorship of this event. We raised a total of €347 for Childline ISPCC.
Team Hope – Christmas Shoebox Appeal We are taking part in the 2016 Christmas Shoebox Appeal again this year. It was a great success last year with our school & community donating a massive 76 Boxes. The closing date to get your finished shoeboxes back to the school is Thursday 10th November. “Many of the families that receive these boxes live on less than €1 a day”.
Classroom Toys and Resources
We are looking for your help as we are setting up the Aistear (Early Childhood Curriculum Framework) Infant play programme in our junior classrooms. Please see below a list of suitable toys and equipment that would be of great benefit to our classrooms. If you have any of the items below or indeed any items that you feel could be used in an educational play setting we would appreciate if you could donate them to the school. We hope to collect as many of these items as possible in the next few weeks and then we can invest in other suitable resources that are needed.

Items can be sent into school at any stage or we can arrange collection. Please send in the items by 18th November.
County Cavan Primary School Cross Country
We will take part in the 2016 County Cavan Primary Schools Cross Country Competition on Wednesday 26th October in Killinkere. Training is going very well on the pitch at lunch time and we hope that it will be an enjoyable event for all the athletes.
Football
Congratulation to Munterconnaught underage teams who participated in a Blitz in Maghera last Sunday. (check out our website for some lovely photographs)
Handball Coaching
There will be handball coaching for all boys and girls in Munterconnaught GAA club alley on Sunday evening from 6 to 7pm for all boys and girls in 4th, 5th and 6th classes. Please bring €2, water, goggles (if you have them) and gloves (if you have them). Congratulations to Shane, Paul, Daniel, Seán and Josh who took part in a Handball Blitz against Kells Handball club in Munterconnaught Alley on Sunday last.
